iPod 4th gen backlight flashes on then off

When I press the home button to turn my iPod on from sleep mode, the backlight flashes and turns right back off.  I can swipe at the bottom of the screen and hear it unlock but only to a black screen.  Any suggestion on how to fix this problem?

Ipod will not turn on. Black screen no logo. Nothing. I do mean nothing. Tried hold power and home. Tried connecting to PC. Nothing. Whatever i do nothing happens. No backlight. Nothing. I really mean nothing. I have tried every fix offered on comments.
