I recently got my iPod stolen at school.. Would I be able to use the serial number to locate it even though the iPod has a different IOS than my phone?

How do I recover a stolen iPod Touch
I lost my iPod touch on the bus and I had another one stolen from me 2 years ago. Is there a chance that Apple can track them down? If not, could the police do anything about it? How can I contact apple about this?!

My iPod touch 4G was stolen and restored. What do I do?
I got an iPod touch 4G in December. There was over 270$ put into the iPod. It got stolen March 7th and got restored sometime March 10th. I have the serial number linked to my iTunes account. Is there any way I could find my iPod?

how can I tell if someone erased data from my stolen ipod

Stolen ipod.
Apple really can't help for stolen products, but you can report it to the authorities.
If its brand new Im sure you can still retrive its serial number from the invoice. Then if you suspect that kid, you can use your invoice as a proof that the ipod is yours.

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
- Apple will do nothing
