No Security for Gift Cards There is more security to log on to this website

June 13 2013

Hi All,

\Probably the wrong community to post to....but ****, Apple , seems to have really dropped the ball on this one....They tout their gift cards, I am / was the recipient of one....I used it to purchase an Ipod....( not a thrilling product but not why I am writing)  once I had removed the Gift Card from it's folder and presented it as payment, I put it in my wallet as I would any other piece of plastic that has money attached to it...

I had the misfortune to lose my wallet a few days ago, and I call my bank and credit card companies, and identify myself and easily cancel the cards, I remember the Apple card was also in my wallet, and I call the local Apple store, they see my purchase but are unable to retrieve the card's number as it is re-dacted except for the last four numbers...so no help there...

I send email to Apples online customer service, I have Melbert answer my email...he feels very sorry for me....and tells me via a link that Apple's policy for liability is zilch ! when I write back to beseach him to retrieve the card's number, he sympathizes again and directs me to another link , where further run around can ensue..

I can't believe that signing onto this forum has more security than the Gift CArd that has 800 dollars remaining on it, that enables anyone who picked up my wallet to have a shopping spree at the Apple store of their choice.

Most cards I have used require a PIN to activate the card, thus ensuring a modicum of security for situations just like this one.....

So Apple ......you suck even more than I thought before I entered this Borg.
