Can't sync apps on ipod touch

For the last few months I can't sync any new apps to iPod touch or delete unwanted ones. (Apps already on my iPod update and work fine.)

I can't remember for certain when this started but it has been a while. Also the iTunes and App Store apps on my iPod are not there this happened at the same time as new apps being unable to sync.

 

On the app management tab when my iPod is connected to iTunes I can see the new apps and move them onto the iPod screen but when I sync nothing happens. I have checked that the apps are for suitable for the model I have.

 

This is very frustrating and I would like to know how to fix this. Has anyone experienced and fixed this? Please let me know.
